Formed in late 2003, it was the brainchild of 3 young musicians, Ian Prise, Nicholas Asmussen, and Edison Parker. Nick played guitar and sang, Ian played keyboards, bass, and guitar, and Eddy was on drums.
Sometime in 2005, the trio invited one David Vicklund to jam with them in Edison's basement, and magic happened. Vicklund was invited to join the band several weeks later, and a new Alchemy was born.
This venue served as the meeting place for the band for nearly all of the early years, until eventually main operations were moved to Nick's "Loft." The Loft is the room above Nick's garage where the three spent many of their childhood days. The move came shortly after the four cleaned it out, seeing as it had become a storage place for musty documents and trinkets of the ages. It served as a perfect venue for practising, recording, and general chillaxing.
Or so it seemed. One day not more than 2 weeks after the move, condo owners semi-adjacent to Nick's loft called in a noise complaint to the Kirkland Police Department. The band was flattered when the officer told them that they were a very skilled group of musicians, but that they would have to keep it down nonetheless. The truly sickening part of this story is that the condo owners could not hear the music from inside their apartments, but from outside in their parking lot. The band sent Parker over to see just how loud the music was, and a brisk wind was louder than what the band was making.
But, alas, thus is the way of life.
The band was forced to switch over to an electric drum set, which they used for several months until it was decided that it simply did not have a genuine sound, nor did it sound in any way appealing whatsoever. As such, they concluded that the only way to record the drum tracks for the album would be to find another suitable venue.
But here things began to turn sour. The band's ties were loosening. Certain moral and creative disagreements sprung between the band, and so they were split into two groups, Nick and Eddie, and David and Ian. The latter remained as Alchemy and continues the legacy today.
As of today, the specific roles of the band are as follows:
Ian Prise - Keyboards, Bass
&
David Vicklund - Guitar, Vocals
&
Ryan Robison - Drums
We welcome our newest member to the mix, Ryan Robison on Drums! He's been a good friend of ours for years, and he recently began jamming with us and practising his chops, and we are happy to announce that he's been officially recruited as a full-time member of Alchemy. Congratulations to him, and look for more updates in the near future now that we're fast approaching a full line-up!
